Laurie Van Dermark

Author of the Award-Winning The Battered Heiress Blues

Laurie Van Dermark is a medical professional, author, and Atlanta native. She credits her high school AP English teacher, Ms. Susan Hussey, for instilling a love of writing and self-expression. Living abroad and traveling have served to foster her awareness of societal inequities. Invited to travel with a group of humanitarians to Chimbote, Peru in 2001, she learned about the social and political misdoings that contribute to poverty. She has returned for several visits to work at the mission and continues to speak publicly about their struggles. She's an adoptive mom to two children from Guatemala and is an alumna of Delta Zeta.

Laurie supports the work of Possible, PIH, Friends of Chimbote, Enough Project, Sentinel Project, ONE, and Mercy Ships.
